Representatives of the Monroe City School Board traveled earlier this month to Washington, D.C where they met with civil rights lawyers at the U.S. Department of Justice, School Board president Verbon Muhammed revealed Tuesday night at the board's regular meeting. "The Department of Justice officials were extremely interested in efforts to charter Neville," said Muhammed, who was one of several representatives who attended the meeting. Muhammed said a number of concerns had surfaced, including the impacts to students who may not want to attend Neville Charter School, how the racial makeup of Monroe City Schools might change if the charter is approved and how the district's test scores would suffer if Neville were chartered. .....
