Proposed constitutional amendments explained EDITOR'S NOTE: The following is the second of a two-part series examining nine proposed amendments to the state Constitution and one local option vote on the Nov. 6 ballot. The first part of this series appeared in this space last week, in the Oct. 11 edition of The Ouachita Citizen.
When voters go to the polls for the Nov. 6 general election, they will be asked to consider nine constitutional amendments and one local option measure that, collectively, run the gamut from gun rights to term limits for School Board members.
Last week, The Ouachita Citizen outlined the first five amendments, which included protections for senior citizen Medicaid funds, strengthening Louisiana gun rights, requiring longer notice of proposed changes to state retirement plans, an expanded Homestead Exemption for the spouses of disabled veterans and the forfeiture of public retirements by public servants convicted of a felony connected with public offices.
Each year, the Public Affairs Research Council, or PAR, publishes a non-partisan guide to the amendments to outline the pros and cons of each proposed change to the state Constitution.
