Local experts offer tips for Halloween safety posted Thursday, October 18th, 2012 @ 12:10 pm  E-mail Story |  Print Story  People taking children trick-or-treating for Halloween should be familiar with the neighborhood streets they visit, staying alert to surrounding persons, moving vehicles and candy passing hands. To further protect children, an adult should supervise them at all times, according to Ouachita Parish Sheriff Jay Russell. "Grownups shouldn't just drop off their kids and come back later to pick them up. Stay with your trick-or-treaters," Russell said. "Do it in the daylight hours if you can." Meanwhile, drivers should remember to slow down and remain alert in residential neighborhoods where trick-or-treaters will be. The Sheriff's Office reminds drivers that there's no time for texting or talking on the phone while driving through neighborhoods and drivers should focus on the safety of the children in their car and on the street. .....
