Rebels, Lions reignite rivalry One of the most intense high school rivalries in state athletics will resume when the West Monroe Rebels host the visiting Ouachita Parish Lions in a District 2-5A contest Thursday night in Rebel Stadium.
The defending 5A state champion Rebels edged a 17-14 victory over the Lions during overtime in last year's contest. The rivalry series dates back to 1954 and has rarely cooled since then.
"Regardless of the rivalry, this game has value to win the district," said West Monroe Rebels head coach Don Shows. "With them (Ouachita) having beaten Ruston, we have to take the lead. If they win this game, they're going to win the district. I think they have a chance to win it all."
