City to spend $50k to host LMA convention

The City of Monroe is set to host the Louisiana Municipal Association 2013 annual convention, but at least one member of the Monroe City Council has reservations about the cost of hosting the event.

At a recent meeting of the City Council, Councilman Eddie Clark questioned a $50,000 spending request from Mayor Jamie Mayo's administration.

"What are we paying for with that money?" Clark said during the Sept. 11 meeting.

Mayo detailed some of the expenses, which include paying for security, some convention materials and providing a welcome reception for conference attendees.
