City eyes grant for Kiroli electrical system The underground electrical system at Kiroli Park in West Monroe is more than 30 years old, and needs an upgrade urgently.
At last week's Board of Aldermen meeting, aldermen took the first of many steps necessary to begin the needed improvements when they agreed to submit an application for a state grant to pay for a new electrical grid at the park.
Eric Hale, the city's economic development coordinator, said the funding would come from the Local Government Assistance Program, or LGAP.
"It's a state program where they allocate about $150,000 to each parish for public infrastructure improvements," Hale said. "Monroe doesn't qualify because it's over 50,000 population.
