SOS clarifies Armstrong's status following erroneous report Ray Armstrong will take his seat on the Monroe City Council in January after voters have had the opportunity to elect representatives to the three open seats on the council.
That's according to a ruling from the Secretary of State's Office. The office said last week that Armstrong's term could not begin until after the remaining three seats on the City Council have been filled.
"As soon as all the City Council seats are filled, then they can take office at the same time," said Secretary of State spokesman Saylor Jackson.
Armstrong was elected without opposition to the District 1 seat on the City Council when qualifying for the Nov. 6 general election ended last month.
