Ouachita Parish dodges an Isaac bullet

Local officials were quick to praise the region's response to threats posed last week by Hurricane Isaac in light of the storm's impact to the area.

Initial forecasts predicted Isaac would dump torrential rains and bring heavy winds to northeastern Louisiana. In preparation for the storm, local governments mounted massive efforts to prepare for evacuees from south Louisiana and to provide critical services in the event of inclement weather at home.

The evacuees did not materialize and the storm dropped just 2.5 inches of rain on Ouachita Parish, according to the National Weather Service.
