Nicholls-Oregon State Football Game Postponed
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Nicholls State University officials announced on Wednesday night that its football season opener at Oregon State has been postponed due to damage to Thibodaux and the surrounding areas caused by Hurricane Isaac.

"It's extremely unfortunate that we will not be able to make this trip," Nicholls State University Athletic Director Rob Bernardi said. "With the lingering effects of Hurricane Isaac, we do not want to put any of our student-athletes or staff in danger, so at this point, we feel like it is best to focus on the safety of everyone, and we'll look into rescheduling the game at a later time."

Officials from Nicholls and Oregon State will consider scheduling options in the near future, potentially making up the game on the weekend of Dec. 1, providing that Nicholls does not reach the playoffs and Oregon State is not in its conference championship game.

With Isaac moving at slow speeds, Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes were hit by heavy wind and rain for much of the day, leaving nearly 60,000 homes and business without power. As of Wednesday afternoon, over 650,000 residents had lost power state-wide.

The University has already canceled classes for Friday, and hopes to resume activities on Tuesday after the holiday weekend.

Nicholls will now open the season on Sept. 8 at South Alabama. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
