Northeast Baptist falls to Christian Home School - Lafayette 36-18 The Northeast Baptist Knights traveled three-plus hours to Lafayette to face Christian Home School (CHS).
Even though the Knights started the game strong, leading 18-16 after the first quarter, the Christian Home School defense shut down the Knight offense and scored 20 unanswered points to earn the victory, 36-18. The Louisiana Christian School Association District 8 contest was the opener for both teams.
With only 14 players on the roster for Northeast Baptist (0-2) compared to the 32-man roster of CHS (1-0), the Knights depth took its toll on the young squad as it tried to pick up its first victory of the season.
CHS sophomore running back Clinton Miller was the leading rusher in the game with 11 carries 137 yards and three touchdowns.
Northeast Baptist lost their season opener against the Mississippi Association Independent School eight-man division defending state champion Tensas Academy Chiefs, 60-26.
In the Tensas game, senior Knight receiver Graydon Randol set a school record for touchdown receptions with four.
This Friday, Northeast Baptist will host Mount Olive in a junior varsity contest at the West Ouachita Youth Sports Association (WOYSA) football complex located on Hwy. 34.
The Knights varsity team will return to action on Sept. 7 in their home opener at Riser Middle School against the Breaux Bridge Christian Knights (1-0). Breaux Bridge won their opener over Bethel Christian, 22-6. |
