Rebels Revenge: WM looks to dominate Byrd following 2011 sting
by Jimmy Touchet - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Last season, the West Monroe Rebels were riding sky high following a comeback victory over parish rival Neville in the 2011 Bayou Jamb. The following week, the Rebels quickly fell back to earth and suffered the sting of 30-23 loss to the C.E. Byrd Yellow Jackets.

The Rebels again open their regular season against the Yellow Jackets. Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Rebel Stadium.

This is not the same Byrd team that went undefeated through the regular season in 2011 and made it to the Class 5A semifinals before falling on the road to eventual state runner-up Carencro Bears, 34-21.

Gone is All-State honorable mention quarterback Richard Carthon and 18 starters from last year's record setting team.

One question mark for West Monroe will be the status of Coach Don Shows who was admitted to the hospital on Monday due to fatigue. As of publication, it was not determined if Shows will be on the sidelines Friday night.
