Monroe beats AR - Monroe All-Stars 1-0 in Dixie World Series
The Monroe Dixie Youth 14-year old AllStar team took care of business in their first game of the Dixie Boys World Series by blasting the All-Star champions from Arkansas 14-5 at City Pond Park in Covington, Ga on Monday.
Cole Marsh started for the Monroe All-Stars and went 3 innings giving up 4 hits and 4 runs - 3 earned runs and struck out 5 Arkansas batters.
Dixon Houston came in the fourth inning and picked up the win for the Monroe team. Houston went 2.1 innings allowing 2 hits, 1 run and striking out 5 batters.
Michael Cummings came in relief in the sixth inning to close out the game only allowing 2 hits and no runs.
Leading hitters for the Monroe All-Stars were shortstop / pitcher Houston who went 3-4 with 3 RBIs, left fielder Henry Campbell who went 2 for 4 with 5 RBIs and center fielder Curphey Hardin who went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs.
Monroe's next game against South Carolina was delayed due to inclement weather in the Covington, Ga area. As 13-year olds last season, the Monroe All-Star won the Dixie Youth World Series played in Seneca, SC.
Team members include Charlie Barefoot (Lee Junior High), Hawkins Boyer (Lee Junior High), Curphey Hardin (OCS), James Anderson (OCS), Nolan Thompson (OCS), Oliver Campbell (Neville), Payne Cummings (Neville), Cole Marsh (Neville), John Kade Lawrence (Neville), John Mitchell McDuffie (Neville), Christopher Haynes (Neville), Dixon Houston (Neville) and Caleb Armstrong (Ouachita Parish).
