River Oaks opens softball season
The River Oaks Lady Mustangs started their 2012 softball season on the right note taking a 2-1 decision over Tensas Academy in the Riverfield Softball Tournament on July 27th in Rayville. The Louisiana Summer heat and inexperience took its toll on River Oaks (1-2) as the Lady Mustangs lost their next two games in the double elimination tournament.
Game two of the tournament saw the Lady Mustangs fall to 5-2 to Union Christian. In game three, River Oaks stayed closed to the Prairie View Lady Spartans for three innings. With temperatures in the triple digits, the young Lady Mustangs ran out of gas and the Lady Spartans broke through for a 9-2 victory.
River Oaks Head Softball Coach Billy Thurmon is counting on a solid tournament schedule to build the experience in his young Lady Mustang team.
"We have several young players that we need to get seasoned in the month of August before we start district in September," said Coach Billy Thurmon. "We have four tournaments that will give us the experience that we need to get ready for district."
