Obituaries published on August 2, 2012 James Arthur Altick Funeral services for James Arthur Altick (Jim) were at 10:20 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2012, at Grace Episcopal Church with The Very Rev. T. Whitfield Stodghill III, Rector; The Rev. William R. Bryant; and The Rev. Dr. Bette Jo Kaufman, Deacon, officiating. Interment was at Mulhearn Memorial Park under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe. Mr. Altick, age 72, passed away at home in Monroe on July 27, 2012, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's Disease. Mr. Altick was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Anthony Altick; mother, Irene Bernice Burton Altick; sister, Marianna Altick Pain; and grandson, James Arthur "Trey" Altick, III. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Louise Gray Altick; brother, Daniel Anthony Altick Jr. and his wife, Connie Sue Altick, of Monroe; daughter, Ormond Altick Guenard and her husband, Jay, of Pittsburgh, Penn.; son, James Arthur Altick Jr. and his wife, Helena, of Monroe; daughter, Connie Altick Banovac and her husband, Filip, of Alexandria, Va.; eight granddaughters, Courtney and Sarah Anne Guenard, Frances, Hannah and Abi Altick, and Anna, Lauren and Lia Banovac; mother-in-law, Betty Ormond Gray of Monroe; brother-in-law, Courtland Prentice Gray III and his wife, Pat, of Plano, Texas; brother-in-law, Woods Eastland Gray and his wife, Mary, of Fayetteville, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Alice Faye Dueitt Alice Faye Dueitt, 64, of Monroe, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2012. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28, at Apostolics of Monroe. Arrangements were handled by Mulhearn Funeral Home of Monroe.
Navy Air Crewman 1st Class Joseph Patrick "JP" Fitzmorris United States Navy Helicopter Air Crewman 1st Class, Joseph Patrick Newman "JP" Fitzmorris, 31, of Ruston, was killed July 19, 2012 in Oman, when his MH-53E Sea Dragon, assigned to Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron 15 stationed at Norfolk, Va., crashed during a downed aircraft recovery operation of another helicopter, about 58 miles southwest of the capital city of Muscat. A memorial service was held at Norfolk Naval Base on July 26 in Norfolk. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2012 at Trinity United Methodist Church on the I-20 North Service Road, in Ruston, with a private burial immediately following, under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home, with Navy Lieutenant (Chaplain) Jeffrey Ross and Associate Pastor Rev. Helen Vesta Joyner Helen Vesta Joyner, 69, of West Monroe, passed away Monday, July 30, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 2 at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in West Monroe under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home. Sharon Faye Ouchley Funeral services for Sharon Faye Ouchley, 61, of Eros, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe with Rev. Billy Taylor and Rev. Billy Lovett officiating. Interment will be held in Mulhearn Memorial Cemetery in Monroe.
Mary Kathryn Reighney Funeral services for Mary Kathryn Reighney, 62, of West Monroe, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012, at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Monroe with Rev. John Mabry officiating. Interment followed in Hasley Cemetery in West Monroe under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of West Monroe. Mary was born on July 1, 1950, in Monroe, and died on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 in West Monroe. She was a devoted Christian and was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school and Bible studies. Mary was a teacher at Alexandria Senior High School and also West Monroe High School, retiring in 2005 after 33 years of teaching. However, she could not stay away from her love of teaching for long and soon began to mentor students in the teaching program at ULM. She even had the opportunity to mentor several of her former students. Teaching was her life. She was affectionately known by her nieces as "MayMay," and is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Agnes Reighney; grandparents, J.M. and Pearl Reighney and Troy and Aline Beaird; and her cousin, Vickie Voda. Survivors include her sister, Susan Reighney Harwood and husband, Bob; three nieces, Whitney Harwood Allen and husband, Nick, Krystal Harwood Cottrell and husband, Jeremy, and Victoria Harwood and fiancé, Seth Hamby; great nephew, Jeremy Cottrell Jr.; great niece, April Cottrell; uncle and aunt, Carl and Melba Voda; cousins Tom Reighney, Jenny Reighney and David Voda; along with a host of her teaching friends and her church family. Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. Friday, July 27, at Mulhearn Funeral Home of West Monroe.
