Sheets returns to dominate form
by Jimmy Touchet - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Former ULM ace pitcher, Ben Sheets continues to shutdown opposing batters for the Atlanta Braves. In his second start since returning from injuries that kept him out of baseball for two years, Sheets pitched six scoreless innings in the Braves 4-0 victory over the Washington Nationals on Saturday at Nationals Park in Washington, DC.

With his six shut out innings on Saturday, Sheets (2-0) has pitched 12 innings without giving up a run. During his 12 innings of work, Sheets has allowed only 7 hits, 4 base on balls while striking out 11 batters.

"If you asked me if I'm surprised I haven't given up a run, yeah I am. But I'm not surprised I'm getting people out," said Sheets. "I wouldn't have come back if I didn't think I could get people out."

For the past two years, Sheets had essentially been retired since tearing the flexor tendon

in his right elbow. Since his return, Sheets has exceeded the expectations of the Braves organization since they signed him to a Minor League contract earlier this month.
