So you think you want to run for office?
 "I think that everyone should run for public office at least once."
"Yeah. And they should have to serve for six months whether they win or lose."
This was a conversation that I had with the former mayor of West Monroe, Bert Hatten, shortly after I had run for state representative in 1982. Running for state representative was one of the most demanding challenges that I had ever faced. My wife, other family members, a few friends, and some church folks who believed in our mission were all that we had.
