WM Belles win district by Jimmy Touchet - posted Thursday, July 12th, 2012 @ 12:00 pm  E-mail Story |  Print Story  This past weekend, the West Monroe (WM) Dixie Belle All-Star team went 5-0 in route to the All-Star Distruct Tournament Championship in Minden. Julia Morrison pitched all 7 innings in route to a 8-4 victory over Minden in semi-final game on Tuesday. With the victory WM Belles eliminated the home team, Minden, out of the tournament. On July 4th, West Monroe met Bossier in the championship game. Brittany Hutton was the winning pitcher, as she pitched 6 of the 7 innings. WM Belles came from being down 6-9 going into the 6th inning. WM held Bossier scoreless in the 6th & 7th and entered the bottom of 7th down by one, 8-9, needing 2 runs to close the game. Jordan Nicholson lead off with a stand up double. Jessica Groan laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Nicholson to scoring position. Brittany Hutton reached first on an infield error, scoring Nicholson, to tie the game. Emily Cartwright, who reached first on a walk 2 batters earlier, crossed home on a base hit by Julia Morrison to win the game, 10-9.
