Police Jury approves River Styx development

A Monroe real estate developer can proceed with a residential development in northeastern Ouachita Parish, the Ouachita Parish Police Jury decided Monday night.

Police Jurors voted 4-2 to allow Michael Sampognaro to move forward with River Styx subdivision, which eventually will comprise 71 moderately priced homes on 16 acres of Lennon Camp Road. Police jurors Walt Caldwell and Pat Moore opposed the motion while jurors Mack Calhoun, Ollibeth Reddix, Scotty Robinson and Shane Smiley voted for it.

The proposed River Styx subdivision is in Caldwell's district.

According to parish consulting engineer Kevin Crosby, developer Sampognaro submitted the required state and federal permits to receive preliminary approval for the first unit in the subdivision. Also, a consulting engineer hired by Sampognaro provided drainage plans for the first unit and the rough outlines of a master plan for River Styx, according to Crosby.
