Sheriff, Monroe mayor, clerk of court take oaths

With the start of the new fiscal year, July 1 also marked new chapters for three local public servants.

That's the date set aside in the law for the swearing in of the Ouachita Parish Sheriff, the parish Clerk of Court and the mayor of Monroe.

For Sheriff Jay Russell, the day offered him the opportunity to thank his supporters and deputies, who he credits for any successes enjoyed by the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office.

"There is no doubt in my mind that we will succeed at what we do," Russell said. "It's because of you that we will. There is no other place than I'd rather be, folks, than right here with you."
