Martin: NCAA playoffs affect bowl game system

So starting at the end of the 2014 college football season - with the first games to be played on January 1, 2015 – there will be a four-team playoff with the playoffs operating within the current bowl structure and the championship to be played at a national site decided years in advance. It will be like the Super Bowl or Final Four in terms of national bidding for the title game.

Why didn't someone think of this earlier? Oh wait, they did. Over and over again, you say?

And it seems that it took a rematch game between LSU and Alabama for someone to finally quit pandering to college presidents and bowl officials to come up with the latest (hahaha), but certainly not final playoff conjecture.

Sure, there will be critics and sure there will be problems. But it's a playoff system folks. No more asterisks. And please, stop all that whining about the regular season not meaning anything. People will show up in the thousands for LSU vs. Towson. Talk about not meaning anything.

Now we have to come up with a committee to decide on the four teams worthy of the playoff with an emphasis put on conference championships and strength of schedule as the main components.

I wouldn't want to be on that committee that picks that committee (see, you just can't get away from politics). But as long as no one named Goodell is on that committee, I feel certain it will be fair
