Millage rate remains same

Property tax rates in the Town of Sterlington will remain unchanged in the coming fiscal year.

At a regular meeting of the Board of Aldermen Tuesday night, the board voted to maintain the assessment at its current rate of 9.15 mills in the new fiscal year. The new fiscal year begins Sunday, July 1.

The millage rate proposal was not included on the original agenda Tuesday's meeting because of an oversight.

Alderman Ron Hill said if the board had wanted to change the rate, it must be advertised in the town's Official Journal by July 15.
