Calhoun High grads reunite Former students at Calhoun High School, which closed its doors in 1989, hold an all-classes reunion every two years. This year's event was held at Calhoun Elementary School, the site of the former high school. 2012 marks the 125th anniversary of the founding of Calhoun School.
A barbecue lunch was served during the event, and a free-throw contest was held in the original gym — now known as the Jerry Lovett Memorial Gym. Photographs, yearbooks, team uniforms, trophies and other memorabilia were on display.
The Alumni Association also handed out scholarships to five students.
The oldest student to attend was Inez Brownlee Gates, class of 1942, and the graduate who traveled the farthest to attend was Thomas "Pete" Allen, class of 1961, from Maryland. The class of 1965 had the most graduates — 12 — from a single class.
Six classes held individual gatherings in addition to the all-classes reunion. For the full story, subscribe to the The Ouachita Citizen's NEW E-Edition! |
