Bayou Bowl tie - Ouachita's Quentin Wheeler named LA MVP by Jimmy Touchet - posted Thursday, June 21st, 2012 @ 12:00 pm  E-mail Story |  Print Story  Just like the Major League Baseball All-Star Game of 2002, the 10th Annual Bayou Bowl played to a 23-23 tie Saturday night at Stallworth Stadium in Baytown, TX ended with no resolution on which state had the better team. Former Ouachita Parish High School quarterback Quintin Wheeler was selected as the Louisiana Most Valuable Player (MVP) while receiver Marquise Johnson, of Channelview High, was picked as the Texas MVP. Northeast Louisiana will represented in the game by sending three players and a coach to participate in this year's Bayou Bowl. Those players selected were Wheeler from Ouachita, Neville linebacker Ricky Wyatt, Neville tight end Taylor Stokes and Farmerville defensive linemen Trey Ford. Neville Coach Brett Lemoine coached Louisiana receivers. "It was a great experience for me and the kids," said Lemoine. "The event was well organized and our players represented Northeast Louisiana well in the game. It was a privilege and a lot fun." Ralph Friebert, of Jesuit-New Orleans, booted a 22-yard field goal with 2:25 remaining to lift Louisiana into a tie. Then, East St. John's Darion Monroe intercepted a pass in the end zone with 41 seconds remaining to close out the Texas scoring threat. The Bayou Bowl is an annual non-profit all-star high school football game between the top graduating seniors from Louisiana and the Greater Houston area. This year marks the tenth year of the Bayou Bowl's existence. Texas leads the Bayou Bowl series 5-4-1.
