Officials dispute pay flap by Michael DeVault - posted Thursday, June 21st, 2012 @ 12:00 pm  E-mail Story |  Print Story  In spite of reports to the contrary, the Monroe Police Department is not withholding money from employee paychecks to pay for accounting errors, according to Monroe Police Chief Quentin Holmes. The root of the problem stems from an accounting error that occurred several years ago. Police officers are paid from two sources. The bulk of police salaries come from the city of Monroe's general fund. But a portion of police compensation is generated through a sales tax levied to provide supplemental pay. Holmes said the problem arose when, several years back, an error was made in calculating how much the sales tax should pay for Medicare contributions, pension benefits and other expenses. .....
