Genealogy society hosts speaker The NELA Genealogical & Historical Society met May 13, in the Louis Locke room of the main library on Stubbs Avenue in Monroe.
The speaker was Judy Nyhuis who gave an introduction in Czech, which she then translated. All of her ancestors were Czech. Her great-grandfather and great-grandmother Kepka immigrated to the United States in 1876.
They settled in Kansas and were farmers. In later years, her great-grandfather opened a repair shop in Ellsworth, Kansas.
All of their living descendents still live in Kansas, except Nyhuis. She lives in Monroe now, but grew up in Kansas on a farm. She told of some happy experiences she had while growing up there. .....For the full story, subscribe to the The Ouachita Citizen's NEW E-Edition! |
