Local private schools opt in

Five private and parochial schools in Ouachita Parish will take part in the Louisiana Scholarship Program, the cornerstone of Gov. Bobby Jindal's education reform package.

Claiborne Christian School, Northeast Baptist School, Our Lady of Fatima, Learning Tech/Quest School and St. Frederick High School have begun accepting applications for the 2012-13 academic year from students at low-performing schools.

The Louisiana Scholarship Program allows students who have been attending C, D, or F-rated schools to attend non-public schools at state expense as long as their family income does not exceed 250 percent of the federal poverty level.
