Checklist can save money, time

As Spring ends and Summer soon arrives most homeowners know it is the check-and-repair season. We have all learned that a simple and easy repair can often prevent a costly replacement. The well organized homeowner will have an annual checklist but for the rest of us who are not so efficient as to have a list here are some simple checks to prevent major repairs later.

ROOFING — a quick check for loose or missing shingles can prevent a major repair if found in time. A roofing contractor can replace those damaged or missing shingles. However if neglected they can create rotting to the underlying wood. A sign of a leaking roof is a stained ceiling and if neglected can create an expensive repair. Examine flashing around the chimney for leaks that can also create havoc with interior ceilings. If roof damage has been caused by falling limbs, wind or hail it may be covered by your homeowners insurance.
