S&P: Monroe credit outlook 'positive'

The City of Monroe has something to crow about after the world's leading credit rating agency changed the city's A+ credit rating outlook from "stable" to "positive."
Southwest Security's Bill Willson told the City Council that the city petitioned Standard & Poors for an increase from the city's A+ to AA-.

"We had hoped to go up to a AA-," Willson said.

Willson said the improved credit rating outlook indicates Standard & Poors will upgrade the city to AA status in the near future.

Willson attributed the improved outlook to Mayor Jamie Mayo's administration.
"They gave a lot of credit to Mayor Mayo and the City Council for balancing the budget, having a surplus balance for 11 of the last 12 years and having a strong surplus fund balance," Willson said.
