This collection is composed not only of photographs from The Citizen but also of treasured family photographs loaned by our many generous contributors. To them we owe a debt of gratitude.

Very special thanks go to Ron Downing for his indispensable help in researching and collecting many of the older photographs. He was always ready to help, supplying and identifying photos and sharing his many years of research of the people and places of Ouachita Parish.

This book is not meant to be a complete and definitive history of Ouachita Parish. It is instead a scrapbook of a parish's faces and events, a popular history blending memorable moments and landmarks with the every day happenings of the lives of its citizens.

The names and dates included in the captions are as accurate as possible and in most cases taken from information supplied by the owners of the photographs. We realize there are people we have failed to identify in photographs whom family members will immediately recognize. We apologize for any omissions and inaccuracies.

Our intention is simply to help preserve these treasures for future generations.
