WM christens senior center expansion

The next time north Louisiana hosts hurricane refugees, some of the people fleeing the storm will seek shelter at the West Ouachita Senior Center.

Tuesday afternoon, West Monroe Mayor Dave Norris joined a host of local guests and dignitaries for a ribbon-cutting for a $1.4-million expansion of the facility on North 7th Street in West Monroe.

Norris was serving in his first term as mayor when the senior center opened in 1981. At that time, he said he wasn't sure what the city would do if enough people did not utilize the facility. Instead, just the opposite occurred.
