Some homeowners and businesses might find themselves on the receiving end of an expensive plumbing bill thanks to state and federal laws that have been unequally enforced in the city of Monroe.

That will occur if the Monroe City Council moves forward with a change to the city's water service policy.

At a regular meeting of the City Council Tuesday night, representatives of the city's water department were on hand to present information about a change to the ordinances governing city water services. The proposed change would require owners of some homes and businesses to install back-flow preventers.
