Town ordered to pay benefits Unemployment benefits and a proposed electronic ticketing system dominated an unusually long meeting of the Sterlington Board of Aldermen Tuesday night.
For more than two and a half hours, the board grappled with a lengthy agenda, including discussion of the town's ongoing dispute with the Louisiana Workforce Commission over unemployment benefits paid to two former employees.
The Workforce Commission paid benefits to Shane Middleton, who Mayor Vern Breland fired in 2010, after an equipment failure spewed sewage into ditches and across U. S. 165 near Marion State Bank.
Breland said Middleton failed to inspect the equipment properly. Replacing the equipment cost the town $30,000. ..... |
