Temple hosts 'gerrymandering' talks

It's called Gerrymandering.

A group of politicians undertakes the complex process of redrawing voting districts, and in the process, shapes districts to suit a particular group or special interest.
Gerrymandering is the subject of a documentary to be presented next week at Temple B'nai Israel, which will host the documentary feature on behalf of a group of local citizens.

The feature-length documentary "Gerrymandering," a film by Jeff Reichert, will be the centerpiece of an evening of discussion, beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 6.
Admission is free and open to the public.

Prior to screening Reichert's documentary, local political scientists John Sutherlin and Joshua Stockley will join attorney Paul Hurd for introductory comments and a question-and-answers session.

Sutherlin and Stockley are both professors at the University of Louisiana-Monroe.
Hurd served as lead counsel on constitutional challenges of gerrymandered voting districts in Virginia, Texas and Louisiana, eventually arguing his case before the U.S. Supreme Court.
