Victor Cascio ends storied run at The Chateau

Victor Cascio remembers that his mother used to tell him to reach for the moon, while his daddy encouraged him to be more practical. You might say the successful Monroe restaurateur achieved both goals.

His Chateau restaurant became a Monroe icon that drew stars from both the political and the entertainment firmaments.

The Chateau will serve its final meals Saturday, March 3, ending a family tradition that began when Cascio's mother Josephine opened Cascio's Spaghetti Garden on DeSiard Street in 1942. At the time, Cascio said she told her husband she wanted to be more than just a housewife.

"She said, 'I'm not like other women. I want to be busy and I want a career. And I'm going to make a big future for my family,'" Victor Cascio recalled.
