The Ouachita Parish Police Jury unanimously agreed Tuesday to seek some $3.7 million in federal funding from the Louisiana Recovery Authority to pay for repairs and improvements to drainage canals and pumping stations in almost all parts of the parish.

Police jurors acted on the matter during their regular meeting. The meeting has held Tuesday instead of a routine meeting day of Monday because Monday was President's Day. President's Day is a federal holiday.

Police Jury Vice President Walt Caldwell described the federal funding as vital.
"If we don't get these funds, we can't make these improvements," Caldwell said. "We don't have the money as a Police Jury, so if we don't get these funds, we can't get this done."
