Aldermen handle business in mayor's absence West Monroe Alderman Fred Ragland said he can recall maybe two occasions that Mayor Dave Norris missed a Board of Aldermen meeting since Ragland joined the board in 1978.
Serving as mayor pro tem, Ragland presided over the Board of Aldermen's regular meeting Tuesday night because Norris was in Washington, D.C. to accept a "Champion of Change" award from the Obama administration. Norris was recognized for the city's Sparta Reuse Project [see story page 1a].
The Board of Aldermen moved quickly through a wide-ranging but mostly routine agenda, approving authorization of several change orders for the Sparta Reuse Project and for the Otis Street Fire Station Project.
