Mayor's race gets nasty

Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo says his re-election campaign will continue to remain positive in spite of what he described as vicious personal attacks by two of his opponents.

At a campaign event held last week, Mayo said Johnny Riley and Ray Armstrong, who both will face Mayo in the March 24 primary election, have been "throwing mud from the beginning."

"They're on Facebook, trashing me, saying personal things, derogatory things about me, trying to affect my family, my wife, my first lady, my children, saying negative things and I don't appreciate that," Mayo said.
