School system entertains budget cuts

Grappling with a projected deficit of about $3 million, a budget committee formed by the Ouachita Parish School Board recommended that no textbooks should be replaced for elective classes next year.

The budget committee decided acted on the matter Monday.

School Board member Scott Robinson, who is a member of the committee, said new textbook purchases are made on a cyclical basis, with books replaced every few years by subject matter.

Up for replacement this cycle were the textbooks for elective courses.
