Armstrong foresees 'potential disaster'

EDITOR'S NOTE: This week The Ouachita Citizen continues a series of articles on the candidates for Monroe mayor.

The next mayor of Monroe needs to be ready to address rising tax rates and a declining population, according to one candidate for the office.

"That spells a potential disaster for the city because we have a declining tax base," said retired physician Ray Armstrong.

Armstrong is one of three candidates who qualified to challenge incumbent Jamie Mayo in the March 24 primary.

Former Mayo administration official Johnny Riley and business owner Clint Thomas also signed on to challenge Mayo, who is seeking a third full term as mayor.
