Man faces 99 years for $16

A Monroe man is headed to prison for armed robbery, and he could be there for a long time.

Robert DeWayne Johnson, 35, was accused of armed robbery in a Sept. 3 incident at the County Market grocery store in Monroe. A 4th Judicial District Court jury took 33 minutes of deliberations to convict Johnson following trial last week.

Assistant District Attorney Brandon Brown was lead prosecutor on the case. He was assisted by Assistant District Attorney Mennon Campbell.

Johnson faces a minimum of 10 years in prison without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence. He could be sentenced to up to 99 years without parole.
