Town pursues USDA funding

A U.S. Department of Agriculture loan may help the Town of Sterlington build its own water treatment facility.

At Tuesday's regular meeting, the Board of Aldermen approved a resolution authorizing Mayor Vern Breland to prepare a preliminary application for the funding.

Breland said he received a letter indicating the USDA had set money aside in case the application was approved.

The construction of a water treatment facility for the town is expected to cost about $7 million.
