District 2-5A Heats Up

The girls basketball season is hitting the final weeks of the regular season and the road to the state title is just around the corner. If a team in Class 5A wants to dance to Ruston (site of the state championship), they more than likely will have to tap their way through District 2-5A.

In District 2-5A, Natchitoches Central (18-5, 2-0) has the early lead on Ouachita (22-4, 2-1),West Monroe (21-2, 2-1) and Pineville (17-5, 0-1). With games being decided by four points or less in most of the district games, each of the teams in District 2-5A are battling it out for valuable wins and power points in hopes of securing a first round home playoff game.

Ouachita started the district schedule on a high note with a huge 45-41 victory at West Monroe.
"When you look at our district schedule, it was a huge win for us," Ouachita Head Coach John Merritt said. "We open district with 3 of 4 of our games on the road. It was important for us to start it off on a positive note."
