Tax proposition on April ballot The fate of funding for Ouachita Correctional Center is in the hands of Ouachita Parish voters.
At its first regular meeting of 2012, the Ouachita Parish Police Jury unanimously approved a resolution to place a 9.2-mill property tax on the April ballot for voters to consider. The proposed property tax would fund operations and maintenance at the parish prison. The tax would be levied for five years if voters approve it.
By law, the Police Jury is responsible for providing clothing, food, medical care and shelter for prisoners at OCC. The Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office is responsible for staffing and operating the prison. .....For the full story, subscribe to the The Ouachita Citizen's NEW E-Edition! |
