Lawmakers nab key committee chairs
State Sen. Mike Walsworth had hoped to serve as chairman of the Senate Finance Committee when the Legislature convenes its regular session later this year.
Instead, Walsworth will chair the Senate Environmental Quality Committee. He learned about his assignment last week from Senate President John Alario. Alario contacted senators last week to inform them of the committees they chair as of Monday.
State lawmakers were sworn into office Monday as part of the activities surrounding Gov. Bobby Jindal's inauguration.
Walsworth said he was pleased with his committee chairmanship assignment and expected to continue to play "a big role" in economic development around Louisiana.
