Judge dismisses election lawsuit

U.S. District Court Judge Robbie James dismissed a lawsuit brought by a Monroe City Councilman and a Monroe voter who sought to have elections for the Monroe City Council placed on the March 24 primary ballot.

In a 20-page ruling, James acted on the matter earlier this week.

Councilman Eddie Clark and Monroe voter Byrd Minter sued the Louisiana Secretary of State, the Ouachita Parish Clerk of Court and officials with the city of Monroe after learning that city council elections originally scheduled for March 24 would be delayed until November.

Minter's and Clark's lawsuit also sought an injunction to force the Secretary of State and the Clerk of Court to hold qualifying for City Council elections later this week.
