Sterlington Basketball teams sweeps Ferriday
The Sterlington Panthers basketball program proved that they have a couple of solid shooting teams with both squads defeating the Ferriday Trojans at home to open the District 2-2A schedule.
In the boys game, the Panthers (19-2, 1-0) were hitting shots from all over the court in route to a convincing 87-35 win over the Trojans.
Brandon Douglas hit a beautiful three point shot at the buzzer that put the icing on a dominating 48-15 first half for the Panthers.
It was a team victory as all players on the Sterlington team saw action. Four of the Panthers were in double digits in scoring.
Lance Richard led the group with 20 points, Douglass had 18, Matt Allred added 17 and Jordan Cruz scored 15 on the night.
"For our first district game, I thought we shot the ball exceptionally well," Sterlington Coach Kevin Caballero said. "Next up, we have two very tough district road games that we have to be focused as a team to succeed. Lakeside is new to our district, and Jonesboro Hodge has always been a tough place to play."
