Riley opposes aid for elderly

Three aid organizations in Ouachita Parish will get a helping hand in the face of shrinking state and federal budgets, courtesy of the City of Monroe.

The move came in spite of strong opposition from one candidate for Monroe Mayor.
At the Monroe City Council's final regular meeting of the year, the City Council approved a trio of cooperative endeavor agreements governing how three groups can spend $5,000 each.

The Ouachita Council on Aging, Positive Enterprise Empowering Public (PEEP), and the Northeast Louisiana Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation will each receive a share of $15,000 approved Tuesday night.
