Water meter upgrades ongoing in Monroe

The contractor hired to replace more than 22,000 water meters for the City of Monroe has completed roughly a third of the project.

As of last week, Vanguard Utility Service has installed 8,784 new water meters on homes and businesses around Monroe, according to city officials.

The new water meters will allow the city to implement an automatic meter reading system. City officials hope the new digital water meters will give city water works more accurate readings, allow for tighter controls of deadbeat customers and prevent instances of meter tampering.
