Refund checks continue to roll out to property owners throughout Ouachita Parish, as the Ouachita Parish Police Jury works to refund roughly $1.5 million in property taxes it collected to fund a failed automobile manufacturing company.

In just over two weeks, the Police Jury has refunded roughly half of the money it collected, according to figures presented to the Police Jury Monday night.

"On Dec. 6, we started the refund process," said Police Jury Treasurer Brad Cammack. "As you can see, from the dates of the check runs, we've got a lot of checks out pretty quickly."

Cammack told the Police Jury that he has issued 276 checks to the largest property taxpayers in Ouachita Parish.
