Extra pay period spurs deficit

The City of West Monroe recorded a general fund deficit for the 2010-2011 fiscal year, the Board of Aldermen learned Tuesday night.

Gathered for their last regular meeting of the year, aldermen received an independent audit of city finances for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2010, and ending June 30 of this year. The audit was conducted by Cameron, Hines & Hartt, a certified public accounting firm in West Monroe.

The audit showed the city closed out the 2010-2011 fiscal year with a $487,921 deficit in its general fund, or primary operating fund. West Monroe also operates a utility fund.
